National Treasures 2: Annoying Dialogue

Friday night Kelli and I watched National Treasures 2. I know that it’s pretty corny but with all of the (American) history that they throw in there, I can’t help but enjoy watching movies like that. It wasn’t as good as the first but I thought they did a good job.
One thing I noticed about it that bothers me was something that I noticed in reading The Grapes of Wrath (GoR). It’s when the director or author relies on dialogue too much to carry the story along.
Ma in GoR, was always telling her family what to do, explaining every detail to them, “Now stir that soup, nice and steady, and I’ll be right back with more wood, then after that we can wash the clothes in this bucket we found on the side of the road…” what?? haha, that’s not a direct quote and nothing ever happened like that in GoR, that’s just the type of things she would say.
Similar to this, in National Treasures the characters would continually state the obvious of what was going on to the other characters. “The water’s going down!”, “Help me turn this wheel!”, “We have to get under that door before it closes!” haha. I guess in defense of the movie, it is geared toward adults and children. Whereas adults may understand that the water is going down by seeing it with their eyes, maybe the kids have to be told that? I don’t know…
